Phil got his first taste of the forest industry working with NZ Forest Service in 1974 in Tapanui and Invercargill.  After graduating from a forestry degree in 1982 he worked for forestry companies in the North and South Island before commencing with Ernslaw One in Tapanui as Forest Planner in 1990.

In 1998 Phil became Regional Manager for South Island and held that position for more than 20 years before his current role.

In this senior leadership role Phil supports the delivery of the Ernslaw strategy by building high performing teams and balancing operational performance with health & safety and environmental compliance in exporting logistics and the South Island Region.  Further responsibility extends to the leadership of our national support functions providing strategic estate planning and decision support, spatial and specialist operational improvement expertise as well as land tenure support across the wider business.  

Phil is also responsible for ensuring the growth of the business by introducing creative solutions and building strong partnerships with stakeholders.

When he’s not working Phil enjoys tramping, e-biking, playing bridge and spending time with family and grandchildren.
