We recognise that our forests around Tapanui in West Otago provide opportunities for many activities over and above growing trees.

To enter any Ernslaw One forest you require an access permit. This is to ensure that we know you are there and can make your visit as safe as we can for you. By completing the online permit application we are able to communicate with you via text and or email if forest conditions change and you need to know about it for your safety.

You should use the link to our forest access system below if you want to enter the forest for;

 

  • Scientific, monitoring or other commercial purposes.
  • Recreation including walking, horse riding or mountain biking
  • Hunting (weekends only).

 

General Access

General Access permits are issued free of charge but depending on what activity you propose you may need to visit our office at 91 Cemetery Road in order to uplift a gate key and or receive a comprehensive safety induction.

Hunting

NOTE: Hunting Blocks are now closed until 2nd February 2019 but will remain closed if fire danger is high. Permits can be renewed from 20th of January. Reapply through your hunting site. New applicants will only be accepted if there is spaces after 20th February.

Hunting permits are issued for our 12 hunting blocks on weekend days only and are now issued for one day at a time. Once registered you can apply for up to 3 blocks per day. Permits are issued by ballot which is drawn every Monday and successful applicants will be notified by email.

Hunting parties of up to four people may hunt a single block, however every person in the hunting party aged 16 years or over must be registered.

In line with other companies registration to hunt Ernslaw Forests is on a cost recovery basis and will cost $65 per year. Payment can be made online using Poly Pay.
